How to improve readability of this site

 

Many sites neglect the challenges that visitors face, when their eyes are not perfect. The CMS of Nul-A Computers facilitates different levels of readability.

There are two settings:

• Contrast

  

  When you have good eyes, use the setting 'normal'.

  When you find it hard to see contrast, use the setting 'high'. Most of the site will appear in black and white.

• Font-size

  

  The default setting is 2. This is for people with good eyes.

  When you increase the font-size, most letters will become bigger. This can be easier to read.

  When you set the font-size to 1, most letters will become smaller. If you can still read the words, you can read more without scrolling.

  Most modern browsers can increase the whole website. Then pictures and the entire site will change to. In some situations the webpages become hard to read. That is why I encourage you to use the font-size to improve readability. This does not change the layout or the size of the pictures.

 

Screen width

This website has four different layouts for different screen widths:

• If your screen width is less than 640 pixels, the layout will be for 480 pixels. This will work on a smart phone.

  This site has a lot of menu's in four different levels. With this small layout navigation will be more difficult.

• If your screen width is less than 800 but higher than 639 pixels, the layout will be for 640 pixels. This will work on most smart phones.

• If your screen width is less than 1000 but higher than 799 pixels, the layout will be for 800 pixels. This will work on a laptop.

• If your screen width is 1000 pixels or higher, the layout will be for 1000 pixels. This is the best way to view this site..

Note.

Above I write 'screen width'. This is not entirely true. It really is 'window width', the width of the window you use for viewing this website. It is a bit technical.

The window width is the width your browser uses minus the part that is used by the browser for other things. If you have bookmarks open on the left, then the width of the bookmarks is subtracted from the width the browser uses.

When you have a wide screen, you can open two or three different browsers and put them beside each other. For study of certain pages this might be helpful.
