Corresponding card in Rider-Waite tarot: 9. Hermit

2.2 Nood

The picture:

Outside there is a snowstorm. A man covered with snow knocks on the door of an isolated farm. The door is opened with hospitality. A warm light radiates from within. A man and a woman stand in the door-opening and offer a hospitable welcome.

Explanation:

In need, one goes to other people and asks humbly for help. That is a risk. People can reject you and you can loose honor. Perhaps those people are without honor and hungry. Perhaps they eat you or rob you blind! This will not often happen literally. But when your own company is in need and you ask for help from another company of from a 'friend', one can abuse your weakness and 'eat your company'.

When one asks for help, one has to do that humbly. One has to cast aside all pride. That is difficult for most people. And when you accept help, you accept obligations. You become obliged to the person that helped you. You have lost a part of your freedom.
